My experience with Word has always been divided. On one hand I like the multitude of functions it has compared to other software. Like they more advanced page setups, AI integration, and just more play and ability to work with your design. On the other hand a lot of its functions are clunky and its not super friendly. All through my high school years I was mainly using Google Docs due to its simplicity and accessibility. I didn't need to buy a subscription or go through an app and multiple steps to write my paper. Google docs was just far more convenient. My worst experience with Word would be when I was working on a business project and any one small change to a page made everything change too, it might have been due to inexperience but that experience has been stuck with me. Also whenever I tried to pdf the file everything would move around too much. That's why I stuck with Docs for majority of my high school years. At FSU after getting more accustomed and used to Microsoft Word, I started to use it more compared to docs. Specifically the various functions and features that are often not available at other software's and that became more useful as I moved to more advanced classes in College.
ISTE Standards for Educators is an important road map for teachers and their career as a teacher. For me the most meaningful standard is the Learner standard. I feel like people and especially teachers are always learning new information and new ways to better teach the students. Also the aspects of the standard such as the always setting goals, participating with your colleges and other resources to further your knowledge and keep learning about present day issues are all things that can greatly help a teacher. I have learned that teacher often have to learn a lot themselves and constantly evolve their style and way of teaching to match the changing world around them. I am curious about which learning and what specific technique helps teachers learn the best in their fields? It it thorough colleagues or through online and printed resources?
I don't agree with the label Digital Native for today's youth. As it makes it seem as every young person today knows how technology works and doesn't take into account the exceptions. Students could often not know a lot or have a lot of skills in technology due to financial or personal problems. To be a Digital Native is to born into technology and understand it from a young age. You don't have to be a computer scientist but you just have an intrinsic and basic of understanding of how a lot of technology works because you grew up with it. This causes some difference with teachers who only learned about technology but weren't born into it. A lot of teachers are not experienced with the technology and so often need the help of the students to navigate some technical difficulties or helping them setup. This can either slow down the lesson or cause a distraction for the class when teaching. In the future I feel like technology and skills needed for life will be far different and the educations system will have to quickly adapt to the modernizing world around them.
